Caucasia

Politics and race are interwoven into this tale of a bi-racial family. Light-skinned with straight hair, there’s little doubt that Birdie takes after her mother’s New England family. But her sister Cole resembles their father, a radical black intellectual. In the early ‘70s, black power politics tear the family in half. Cole takes off with their dad and Birdie goes underground with their mom. Caucasia is the story of a girl’s search for her identity in a world that stresses outward appearance.
